Joan has served individuals of all ages as a faith animator, chaplain and teacher. She worked with Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board for twenty six  years as a member of several school communities, and most recently as the adult faith animator. She began her career with Toronto Catholic Board of Education. 

She received her Doctorate in Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary (Pastor as Spiritual Leader program),  focusing on praying the daily examen in groups. Her Masters of Ministry and Spirituality and Diploma in Spiritual Direction are from Regis College, Toronto. She is a member of the Jesuit honour society, Alpha Sigma Nu.

Joan is a member of Spiritual Directors International, and a Rainbows International grief support facilitator. 

Joan is married to her life-long soul mate and source of love, Robert Main. She is delighted mother to four children and their partners, and grandmother to three grandchildren who inspire her daily with joy.
